The three 'Shades of Gray' paintings show a whitetail buck in the place he calls home at three different times during the fall, and at different times of the day. In 'Gray,' the rut is in full force, the buck is with several does and is willing to move about in the daylight. He is also ready to race back into the woods at the first sign of danger.
