Fishing river snakes around the back of our property in Missouri. For obvious reasons the Belted Kingfisher is a frequent visitor here. Pretty soon it will be time to build a nest, or in the case of the kingfisher it’s more of a tunnel. They will dig a three-foot deep tunnel into the vertical banks of the river and build a round nesting cavity at the end. They’re quite the engineers!
