Chasing the Setting Sun

About This Artwork

So, this painting was inspired by the same day with my son as Thankful End to a Great Day, the light at the end was just so inspiring and perfect, but time was running out for us to find our Pintails, so that’s why I titled it Chasing the Setting Sun, it was truly a race against the sun that day.

About the Artist

Cory James McLaughlin

Cory James McLaughlin

Cory James McLaughlin is a Texas based artist, spending most of his time in Peru over the last 7 years with his wife and children. Cory has exhibited both Nationally and Internationally. He has been a professional artist for over 20 years now. He studied classical realism at South Western University, in Georgetown Tx; while there, he took time to study for a season in Florence, Italy under an artist by the name of Paul Beal. Cory went to school on a scholarship for Sculpting but soon fell in love with Oil painting and well, the rest is history. In 2013, after much consideration, he decided to take a different road and went back to his family roots, you could say, after years of mostly figurative works, Cory began to pursue a career as a wildlife artist. With a long history of waterfowlers and outdoorsmen in his family, it felt natural in ways to return to this history. Since then it has been a relearning and rebuilding of technique in many ways, though he still sticks to traditional methods used in oil painting. Cory is a signature member of the prestigious Society of Animal Artist's. Cory was recently accepted into the much sought after Birds in Art exhibition and is currently on display at the L-eigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum. Currently, Cory is represented by The Sportsman's Gallery, Charleston, SC. focusing on waterfowl and western wildlife. He shows annually at the Out West Art Show and Sale, and has had his work auctioned at the Russell Auction multiple times.
