It is with a heavy heart that we share the passing of David Maass.
David was a true pioneer in wildlife art and an integral part of the foundation that built Wild Wings. From his early days painting waterfowl inspired by his childhood in Minnesota, to becoming a five-time Ducks Unlimited International Artist of the Year, his passion for the outdoors and his craft never wavered. Even in his later years, he was still in his studio, brush in hand, creating the scenes he loved most.
David’s relationship with Wild Wings helped define an era. His first print published by Wild Wings in 1972, Backwater Hideaway, marked the beginning of a legacy that would help shape the wildlife art market as we know it today.
Through his work, David helped raise millions of dollars for wetland conservation and introduced generations to the beauty of wildlife and the importance of preserving it. His influence continues to inspire artists and collectors alike.
At Art Brand Studios, we are incredibly grateful for the role David played in building the legacy we carry forward. His impact lives on in the art, the artists, and the outdoor heritage we celebrate every day.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and all who were touched by his life and work. He will be deeply missed.
