After painting professionally for more than 30 years, Wayne Meineke is well-practiced in his own artistic process: he prefers to paint on-site, often working for a while in the outdoors, then taking the artwork back to his studio to study and develop it indoors before returning to the site to complete it. Because he lives and works in Minnesota, the weather is sometimes uncooperative; occasionally, Meineke must wait till the next season to finish one of his pieces.

Wayne Meineke's painterly brushstrokes and careful attention to color interaction create a distinct style in his artwork which is often described as impressionistic. He generally chooses to paint scenes of natural landscape, seascape, and small towns, as well as portraits of adults and children enjoying the outdoors.

Meineke has been widely recognized for his skill as a landscape painter; his work was included in the Arts in the Parks traveling exhibit which began its tour at the Smithsonian in Washington, D.C. He enjoys interacting with viewers when they approach him while working on an on-site project.
