Born and raised in Ontario, Mia Lane sketched extensively when she was a child, finding subjects for her artwork in the natural world around her, such as wildlife, animals, and plants. She graduated with an art degree from Sheridan college, then worked as a graphic designer for Halton Region Conservation Authority for several years. She is now a full-time fine artist, and still lives in Ontario.

Mia Lane's artwork tends to focus on the rural experience and animals connected with country living. Her compositions appreciate both mood of rural country life and the expanse of natural landscape. Her unique use of color interaction gives her paintings a deep, contemplative luminosity.

Lane often uses her artwork to raise funds for charities and conservation organizations, such as Ducks Unlimited and the Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters. Her work was included in the exhibition of Canadian art when the Canadian Consulate opened in Japan.

Lane herself was even the subject of a documentary titled "The Artist Naturalist: Mia Lane," produced by WPBS TV in New York.
