Leo Stans grew up in Minnesota and, in college, studied and earned a degree in forestry. He now transfers his skills as a forester into researching the wildlife and scenery he loves to represent in his artwork. He has now been a professional artist for more than 10 years, and is considered one of the foremost painters of wildlife in the U.S.

Leo Stans's artwork is inspired by wildlife, such as deer, birds of prey, and wolves, in their natural habitat, as well as urban landscapes. The meticulous detail he achieves adds a sense of life to each of his works. He is especially skilled at rendering light, whether illuminating the background sky of a natural landscape or glowing along wet streets in a city.

His work is widely recognized around the U.S.; in 1990, the National Park Service reproduced his art as a line of collectors' stamps, and he also served as the official artist for the 2009 Minnesota State Fair. He actively supports conservation efforts, donating funds raised by his work to both local and national causes.
